Why this petition matters

Summary: Since Ms. Weaver was removed from her classroom, the students in her classes have been left to teach themselves. Please consider signing this petition to bring Ms. Weaver back. For more information on how this has affected her students read the paragraph below.

A recent petition calling for the removal of Ms. Weaver from her classroom is having an ill effect on her students. Some people who signed the petition were not even in our school and others called her names like, “Fuck that fat white hoe”, or “Fuck that racist bitch”, but claim bigotry is what they fight against. This petition seems to be the reason she has now been removed from her classroom. Moving a teacher halfway through the year can be detrimental to the students in their classes, sociology, psychology, and AP psychology. Ms. Weaver is also the teacher who leads the National Honor Society. Speaking from experience, since Ms. Weaver has been out, almost 3 weeks as of writing this, we have only taken notes from a textbook and done independent work. While some people may still be able to learn this way it is suboptimal for most students. Almost anyone can have a surface-level grasp of concepts and vocabulary terms however without someone in the room explaining the nuances and details of a topic a real understanding of these topics is nearly impossible. Many students have taken to running their own classes, determining who is researching topics for projects, finding out where the information they need is, and interpreting it. Our knowledge of every topic since Ms. Weaver has been out has been surface level and for some students not even that. Many students were planning to get college credits from AP psychology, however, without a proper teacher, they will miss a large section of the information on the exam. The administration admits that AP psychology has been one of the tests they score the highest on, yet they fail to see that the high scores may be caused by the teaching of Ms. Weaver. Based on the college board's ranking AP psychology is the 11th hardest AP class out of almost 50. The students know they are falling further and further behind but can’t do anything about it. We call upon the school board and administration to do what is right. Everyone makes mistakes, but removing a teacher from a classroom with an AP test less than 2 months away is negligent. Leaving students to teach themselves and depriving them of receiving the best possible education they could does not feel right.
