Dear Dr. Joynt & Our MTSD Board of Education-

On behalf of our Mequon-Thiensville community, we are writing to thank you for continuing to protect and preserve our in-person learning by following county Health Department, state Department of Health Services, and CDC advisement to ensure we are using the most updated guidance from public health experts to inform decision-making.

We are gathering signatures to let the MTSD board members know that they should keep the current Mask Mandate policy in place through the remainder of the 2020 - 2021 school year and, as advised by the aforementioned public health experts in 2021 - 2022 school year.

Masks are an integral and non-negotiable part of the “stay safe to stay open” COVID plan currently in place in the Mequon-Thiensville School District.
As such, we believe that it is in the best interest of our children, students, staff, support staff, administrators and our wider community to KEEP the mask requirements to ensure their safety.

The coronavirus still can, and is, spreading among unvaccinated people—who are disproportionately children.  Many students (<16years) have not been vaccinated yet which directly affects the health and safety of many families, and extended families.  We cannot know who is high risk, we do not yet fully understand the potential long term effects Covid has on children, and we are now dealing with the new variant strains of this disease which have many unknowns.

MTSD schools have worked hard in creating rules and procedures for safety that have allowed the students to meet in person and they have been very successful in keeping the schools open this year.

Parents who do not want masks can request to switch to distance learning.

In gratitude of your extraordinary time, dedication, love and protection of our children.

Sincerely,

“Cloth face coverings are one of the most powerful weapons we have to slow and stop the spread of the virus – particularly when used universally within a community setting. All Americans have a responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.” (CDC Director Dr. Robert R. Redfield)
