MTO: Fix the Yonge/401 Interchange
In studies dating back more than 10 years, the Yonge Street / Highway 401 interchange has been identified as one of the key contributors to gridlock in the North York Centre area.
The City of Toronto has set aside funding for its share of a solution in its Capital Budget however, because the interchange is on Provincial land however, the City can’t fix the problem by itself.
The Ontario's Ministry of Transportation continues to insist upon study after study, offering no firm timeline for the project as a whole, nor a firm commitment to constructing a solution.
Residents are fed up not only with the traffic delays but with the delays caused by he bureaucrats stalling on a solution. It’s time to tell the Ministry of Transportation and our provincial representatives that we expect action.

The North York Centre, identified in Ontario's Growth Plan, 2006 as an Urban Growth Centre, has experienced massive development over the past two decades. As a result, traffic in the Yonge/Sheppard & Yonge/401 area is now measurably among the worst in the City of Toronto.
In studies dating back more than 10 years – including those co-funded by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) - the Yonge Street/Highway 401 interchange has been established as a key contributor to gridlock in the area. The City of Toronto has set aside funding for its share of an interchange solution in its Capital Budget, but MTO continues to insist on study after study without delivering results.
As a resident fed up with lengthy delays, I am asking my Provincial government to support its own Growth Plan by delivering the infrastructure needed to handle an intensified population.
I ask the Minister to immediately commit to constructing an interchange solution at Yonge Street and Highway 401 to efficiently move traffic from southbound Yonge Street onto eastbound 401.
I also ask that the Ministry of Transportation, in conjunction with the City of Toronto, to immediately provide a clear timeline for this project - from commitment to completion – accounting for any further study, design or construction work.
