We petition the  Mt Barker District council and South Australian state government to abandon plans to build a sports complex and housing developments on Springs Rd, Mt Barker.

-The community consultation timeline and process for this project and others like it were inadequate

-The development appropriates farmland, which is some of the only arable land in South Australia. The increasing urban sprawl in the Mt Barker area threatens South Australia's food security the livelihoods of primary producers

-This Development is a frivolous waste of public funds, which could instead be put towards maintenance of other public infrastructure

-The development displaces wildlife who use farmland and who access the adjacent Laratinga wetlands. These species include kangaroos, various bird species and eastern banjo frogs

-The development has already and will continue to require the removal of significant trees, further displacing wildlife and increasing the carbon footprint of the project

-The current road infrastructure is inadequate for the increased traffic this area would receive as a result of this development 

-This development, and the many others like it, and increasingly detracting from the area's appeal as an rural idyll; these housing developments are an eyesore

-This development is unnecessary and not wanted by the the community
