MSNBC: Fire Self-Described Homophobe Joy Reid

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,500!

MSNBC anchor Joy Reid has a long and well-documented past of being bigoted and homophobic. The LGBTQ community is under attack everyday from those around us, from the Trump administration, and from the rise in hate crimes across the country. LGBTQ youth are 3 times more likely to contemplate suicide and 5 times more likely to attempt suicide. With people like Joy Reid on the air, it is no wonder these numbers are still so high.

Some of the things that Joy Reid has said about the LGBTQ community are:
-“defending former NBA star Tim Hardaway’s aggressively anti-gay comments that he 'hates gay people' by writing that while such comments are stupid for a public figure to make: ‘most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing’”
-arguing that “intrinsic” to being straight is finding gay sex acts “gross”
-“defending Marine General Peter Pace after he condemned ‘homosexual acts’ as ‘immoral’ by suggesting his views are actually normal”;
-"adult gay men tend to be attracted to very young, post-pubescent types.”
-Calling straight Congressman Charlie Crist "Miss Charlie" and going so far as to say "I can just see poor Charlie on the honeymoon [to his wife], ogling the male waiters and thinking to himself, ‘God, do I actually have to see her naked?’”

While Reid has apologized after immense public pressure, she first tried to claim that the quotes, taken from her blog, were the result of her being hacked. It is hard to take an apology seriously when she first tried to cover her tracks with such a ridiculous tale. Additionally, if you keep a close eye on her current views, she is still very critical of people in the LGBTQ community, though now she doesn't use their sexual orientation as the reason.

With so much on the line for the well-being of the LGBTQ community, it is well past time that MSNBC take this toxic person off the air.

We want to make it clear that by MSNBC continuing to keep Joy Reid on the air, they are endorsing her comments.
