Lucy Hanson started this petition to MSHSL

Minnesota is the State of Hockey. As you have most likely heard, this hockey season's start dates were pushed back to November 23rd (boys) and November 30th (girls). There has been a 30% reduction in games and a state tournament to be further discussed. Speaking on behalf of players and spectators around the state, this is extremely disappointing. Mental health concerns and the benefit of the sport greatly outweigh the slight risk of COVID-19 amongst this age group. It is nearly impossible to contract COVID-19 during games due to the gear, distance, and minimal time of sustained direct contact. This full-length season needs to be available to players who rely on sports to maintain their mental and physical health in the overwhelming way 2020 has held them back. For many, their senior season signifies the end of their hockey career; these players deserve the entire experience just as previous seniors have received.

By signing this petition, I encourage the Minnesota State High School League to proceed with a full season susceptible to reasonable health guidelines for public safety. Numerous summer and fall leagues have continued play since June with no major difficulties. I agree to abide by all the safety guidelines from the MSHSL, MDH, CDC, and all other regulations in relation to hockey. This state needs hockey. Thank you for your support and participation in this petition for Minnesota High School Hockey.
