Stop ECUA Sewage Tanks on Palafox Corridor

As America's 1st settlement, people from Pensacola are proud of their heritage. They enjoy the rich history and want to preserve the original architecture of the city. You see 100 year old buildings next to buildings that are built to look 100 years old. Palafox corridor is the main historical street leading to Downtown Pensacola. It has so much potential. It isn't meant to be an industrial area. We're looking for a revitalization of that corridor and there are plans to do so. Sewage tanks are not in those plans. The highest and best use of the area is for shops, restaurants, small offices, apartments, and homes. Lets makes that happen! Sign and share this petition NOW!
Downtown homes and businesses will be affected.
Are you aware that the Emerald Coast Utility Authority (ECUA) has purchased the former Palafox Medical Center Clinic at 1750 N. Palafox Street with plans to build tanks for the emergency storage of untreated sewage?
This particular location is just ten blocks north of Cervantes Street and sits beside Long Hollow Pond, which is the retention pond that caused the major flooding in Downtown Pensacola on April 29, 2014. This piece of land is relatively low and is covered deep in water every time we receive heavy rainfall. If the sewage tanks were to ever leak, it would send that waste downhill into Pensacola's Business District. Palafox Corridor is the main entrance to Historic Downtown Pensacola. For that reason alone, it doesn't belong there. Not to mention it is uphill from every house and business along Palafox, Tarragona, Jefferson and Guillemard Streets. Historically, aesthetically, and in view of plain common sense, sewage tanks don’t belong there!
Remember, we are working to revitalize the Palafox corridor, not drag it down to an industrial wasteland. We are hoping to stop ECUA from building sewage tanks where they don't belong.
