We really should do this for multiple reasons.

1. It's a great running gag. We could keep it for years and always keep Fred the Fly, the fly that only one class could meet, forever in our hearts.

2. It's a fly. It wouldn't be that expensive, it would be easy to maintain, and would take little to no materials or effort.

3. Fred deserves respect. We would have it for another class pet, why not a fly? It could literally be a post-it note saying R.I.P Fred. Come on.
