Attention All!

The Matric learners of 2020 are at risk of not achieving their absolute best in the next trial exams, due to the tight deadlines that have been given on the exam timetable. They do not give the learners sufficient time for preparation.

The Grade 12 Trial Exam Timetable of 2020 in Limpopo has caused a numerous amount of learners boatloads of stress as it has pushed all the dates of the subjects that learners tend to struggle most with together in one week, on days following each other one directly after the other. Subjects such as Accounting, Physical Science, IT and Mathematics have been compressed into one week as such, which is not only intense for learners who have combinations of these subjects, but severe for learners who have been confirmed to have all these subjects. On this specific week, all these subjects are being written in the first sessions on days following each other, as well as other compulsory subjects such as English Paper 1 and English Paper 3 in the second sessions of each of those days - ALL IN ONE WEEK.

Learners in schools in Limpopo have expressed concern and worry at the possibility of not being able to study efficiently for their main and/ or most challenging subjects and therefore potentially performing poorly in these trial exams.

This Matric group of 2020 is a troubled bunch. Their studies have been delayed due to the Coronavirus Lockdown in the country and although some have continued to learn online, many learners living in rural areas and attending rural schools have not had the same opportinity as the above mentioned and have thus not been taught during the lockdown. These latter students have it worse as they are just now scrambling to finish the syllabus. They will fall even more victim to this Trial Exam timetable. Trying to understand and revise through everything Physics, Math and Accounting-related in a span of a "free" 5 hours will not work out favourably for them. They will be pulling all-nighters for 4-3 days, which is also not healthy nor beneficial, especially for candidates of the Science and Accounting university programmes and fields.

It has been said that universities in the country will be using Trial Exam results to determine acceptance to the learners' programmes of choice. This escalates the problem to another level as it is more than likely that learners with subjects such as Mathematics, Accounting and Physical Science may not perform well enough to get into the university programmes of their choice. Quite disheartening for the future leaders of the country.

We call onto the MEC of Education in Limpopo, the Minister of Basic Education, and the Department of Basic Education to hear our pleas and to lend a listening ear and a helping hand where proven to be needed.

Learners, parents and guardians... PLEASE help the overwhelmed Matric learners of 2020 by signing this petition and sharing it. Your vote shows solidarity and proves your wish of good will to the Matrics. It brings action that much closer. It means something to us. Thank you so much for your support.
