Britania Education Trust Scools should offer Halal meal options!
Why this petition matters
The schools that fall under the Britania Education trust are Royal Wharf Primary & Britania Village Primary and both school have a growing number of Muslim pupils that attend. It is a religious obligation for these pupils to eat halal food whilst at school. Bother schools that fall under BET (Britania Education Trust) do not offer any sort of halal option, however, they do offer Vegan, Vegetarian and non- halal food for pupils. Is it fair that those who only eat vegetarian because of religious reasons are able to do so (good for them) and the pupils who require halal are not given the same option? Muslim children uncontestably have the right to provision of halal meat for their school meals at both BET schools just as account has been taken of the dietary requirements of the other groups.
It is stated on Britania Village Primmary School website that one of the reasons halal food is not served at the school(s) is due to Animal welfare. If this is the case as for the objection to halal meat in both BET schools then, shouldn’t that mean that no meat be served instead of just non-halal meat as animals are being ‘slaughtered’ in both cases? If the feelings of Animal welfare activists are being taken into consideration then why aren’t the feeling and rights of Muslim pupils and parents being considered?
This petition is not to say that only halal food is to be served at both BET schools, nor is this petition stating in any shape or form that halal meat should by policy be imposed on the majority, who will not share the religious requirements of the minority group; and, indeed, will in many cases find consuming halal meat unconscionable. Rather, it is only to bring to light the obvious fact that Muslim pupils are not being properly included or catered to as they should be. We are only requesting that access to clearly identifiable halal meat options at lunch time be available to pupils.
According to Ofsted, British values are; “democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith”. If this is the case then BET are not meeting these standards based on the food they serve their pupils. British values should pertain to every aspect of school life, not only to what is being implemented in the curriculum.
The Muslim fraction at BET schools DO NOT feel included nor considered in many choices imposed by BET and it is time for change!
Collaborative efforts work best, so please sign the petition and send it to as many people as possible so they can sign as well.
