Make Brentwood Change Finals Schedule

The LA fires have caused financial, logistical, and emotional stress on the Brentwood community. The student body expected the administration to consider these factors when reworking the exam schedule and to accommodate the needs of its students. After its email today, it is clear that the administration refused. It is insensitive for the administration to claim that it respects the needs of its students while simultaneously maintaining the old exam schedule. From a purely academic standpoint, the student body has missed two vital review days because school was cancelled. On Friday, tutorial day was cancelled to try to cram in two days of review into one. This in and of itself is setting up the student body to underperform on finals. Moreover, many students will have to miss these already shortened review sessions because of makeup assessments in other classes. The administration should recognize the severity of the situation the fires have caused. Taking finals while under such stress will undoubtedly have detrimental effects on the student body's grades and wellbeing. The relationship between the students and administration will be further strained if changes are not made to the exam schedule.
We hope for one of, or some combination of, the following alternatives: projects instead of sit down tests, shortened final lengths, limited content on finals, built in curves to finals, or optional finals.
Brentwood should be focusing on the needs of the greater community at this time. Instead of stubbornly adhering to an impractical exam schedule, let us all appreciate the gravity of the circumstances and spend time repairing--both physically and emotionally--the state of our neighborhoods.
We understand that the fires have complicated matters for the administration. We just ask for our opinion to be considered and for fair compromise to prevail.
