Represent the Cares of Our Community: Reduce Waste at FHS

At FHS, we pride ourselves on being a progressive and relatively “green” school. The environment and its protection is something incredibly important to FHS students, as evidenced by the sheer number of parties within the school who are working towards reducing our waste production and promoting new environmentally friendly endeavours, such as compost and recycling programs. I believe that, while I cannot speak for every single student, I speak for the school as a whole when I say that going green matters to us.

That said, this dream of a cleaner future is not represented in the actions of our school community. Unfortunately, our school plays a big part in the waste production of our community. From deforestation caused by overconsumption of paper to trash islands and microplastics, we are part of a problem much bigger than ourselves. While we may not be able to change the world, we can try (and succeed) to change our corner of it.

This petition signifies a desire for more dialogue within our school community. We would seek new conversations and fresh ideas, discussions on everything from electronic submission of assignments to reusable plates and cutlery in the cafeteria. This petition seeks change, and it seeks students who are willing to work to make it happen.
