Will post some vital information regarding pepper imports from Vietnam and other Black Pepper growing Countries..
As of now many commodity trader's are importing Black Pepper from Vietnam as well as from Srilanka from different ports of the country..
And all growers organisations are staging protest and couple of organisations have updated the PMO and the commerce ministers office about it..
with the help from a Black Pepper grower we could gather information as far as imports of Pepper from Vietnam as well as other origins through a couple Of Ports in India.
As per the data gathered..
From Indonesia import duty is 37% from Srilanka 11% and Vietnam 63%...
From Srilanka after import duty the landing cost x Indian port is around 370/kg...
Now let's look at Vietnam pepper cost of a kilogram of Vietnamese pepper is 285/kg at Vietnam and after duty of 63% the landing cost at Indian port is 434/kg + other fright charges....now I am sure all of you might be wondering how the traders can make money and what is wrong in doing this exercise when the landing cost is more then the present Indian market price...which is hovering around ₹400/kg
This exercise is taken up by some traders to do quick money.... Vietnam Black Pepper will be retained in India... Indian pepper gets exported as " PROCESSED /STERILISED RE-EXPORTED VIETNAM BLACK PEPPER"
WHICH IS A CRIME..
Now the big question is how will they make money....
Also the govt should restrict Sri Lanka import to 2000 tonnes maximum out of their annual production of 3000 tons .
THE GOVT SHOULD ALSO COME OUT WITH IMPORT MINIMUM PRICE.
TRADING COMMUNITY effectively utilising/TAKING ADVANTAGE on the import export law which is prevailing in the country..
IF a trader reexports the commodity by value addition.. He will be GENERATING foreign exchange... For doing the same he gets the entire import duty credited back to his account + 5~7 export sops for generating foreign exchange...
By doing this exercise he will make around 150/kg of pepper..
And biggest dent on the domestic market... Also huge loss to the govt exchequer.. And in the process our Indian origin BLACK PEPPER gets devalued..
AND TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING IN FUTURE REQUEST TO SIGN THE PETITION TO SAVE THE INDIAN ORIGIN BLACK Pepper grower .
THIS exercise will be able to stop Unethical PRACTICES AS FAR AS IMPORT AND EXPORT OF BLACK PEPPER IS CONCERNED..
