If students have a minimum 3.0 GPA, parents should be allowed to waive SCOPE period for their student. This allows students who need extra help to have more individual time with teachers by reducing study hall class sizes. Students who do not need this help will have an opportunity to take additional classes that make them more competitive for college applications. James Wood High School would benefit all around by improving the scores of those who are overcoming academic challenges and allowing those who are capable of moving forward to highlight what the school offers those of higher academic achievement. The school would then truly reach the needs of all students, thus proving to be a school committed to excellence.
