Let's Create Safe Movement Through Tecumseh Neighbourhoods
We can make our community of Tecumseh safer for all residents with simple changes. Navigating our neighbourhood streets on foot, on bicycles, and even in our vehicles in often tricky due to speeding vehicles, a lack of sidewalk or bike paths (Arlington Blvd.). It is a safety concern for all residents but is perhaps even more dangerous for children, especially those making their way to and from school at busy commute times and the many walkers, dog-walkers and cyclists of all ages.
All-way stops, speed bumps or roundabouts, as well as sidewalks or multi-use paths along one side of neighbourhood streets, along with a speed limit reduction have been successfully implemented in urban campaigns across the globe ("20 is Plenty") and would make significant improvements for the safe navigation along our neighbourhood routes. Crossing guards are another way to increase safety and slow traffic during busy commuting times (no guard is not present at St. Gregory's Road and Arlington Road which is increasingly busier each year).
With more and more children and active residents in the town and a seemingly significant increase in the number and speed of vehicles, the need is pressing!
We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to:
1. Install traffic calming mechanism (e.g. all-way stops, speed bumps or roundabouts) on our Tecumseh neighbourhood streets.
2. Ensure a sidewalk is along one side of each street.
3. Crossing Guards are available at all schools to ensure safe crossings and enforce safe crossing.
