A teacher found guilty of racism is being allowed to continue teaching.
A teacher that has told black students they're letting black people down by doing well in tests among a plethora of other alleged racist remarks.
A teacher that has admitted to disliking pupils in the sixth form because there were too many foreigners and referred to foreign nationals as "aliens".
St John's College claims to be a school that abhors racism yet why is such a teacher being allowed to teach?
As a black student, the prospect of being in a class with such a teacher fills me with anxiety and dread, such a class would become a nightmare and the prospect of learning would be daunting.
Here is a man who is supposed to uplift students and encourage them to do well...As an older student,I know what hard work can achieve but imagine if a young black grade 8 boy were to come across such ideologies;being told they are letting done their race for doing well.
Yes,the teacher has agreed to take part in a process of restitution and reconciliation but that is not enough.
These are not "little jokes". These comments provide a clear picture of what this teacher thinks of black students;not as future doctors and lawyers but as prospective failures.
How is a student supposed to achieve knowing that his educator, the person tasked with overseeing his studies and nurturing his mind, expects him to fail?
The purpose of this petition is to help revoke the decision to let this teacher continue teaching at St Johns. If you agree, please sign and share it.
