Request change to Ala Moana Park’s antiquated rule which disallow animals and to address in particular pet & pet owner access? Or, perhaps to at least consider a compromise change by designating an area for pets. Especially so, since the surrounding neighborhood of Ala Moana/Kakaako is growing in leaps and bounds, with far more pet owners needing a place to go to. As a matter of fact, both General Growth and Howard Hughes property owners across the street at Ala Moana/Ward Centers have recognized this and are very pet friendly as well.
We were at the park just the other day with our pups Bailey and Parker (on leash) and two Park Rangers chased us off. Stating, if we did not leave penalty/fine would be $500. With so many homeless in the park leaving trash/loitering/sleeping in the trees/vandalizing the restrooms/robbing park users/etc., we wonder why good “law abiding” “tax paying” citizens are being discriminated against by preventing access when with our canine friend(s).
Moreover, we understand in certain situations they do make exceptions and permit it, like on “Pet Walk Day”. As for enforcement they appear to have hired Park Rangers who seemingly are doing a great with enforcement.
So if allowed and should a pet be off leash, owner have more than the allowable limit, owner not have poop bags/pick up their dogs poop/throw their poop bag in the trash or not be legally registered...park rules could probably be better managed/enforced.
