Make Transcript Requests Free Again

In a county whose school district suffered from a bare 41% of high school graduates moving on to post-secondary education, it seems as if The School Board doesn't want change. Effective January 13, 2014 at Gateway Highschool in Kissimmee, students will now have to pay three dollars per each transcript request sent out to colleges, internships, or scholarship applications all alike. In Osceola County, research shows an overwhelming 71% of students receive free or reduced lunch. With that percentage on the rise from 63% just four years ago, it only hinders any chance for academic advancement to charge for official transcripts. If waivers are given for standardized testing, and college applications, why create an obstacle for students, whose families struggle economically, to apply for college?
Please help us students of Gateway High School of Osceola County voice our opinions about this hampering act by Gateway Highscool's administration to the Osceola District School Board.
“Plant a seed. Allow them to come, experience it, see it and then hopefully encourage them to pursue what a post-high school career might look like,” said Gloria Neic of the Celebration Foundation.
