From the kind people at Northbridge, Can sum up what we are doing here
"We, the students of the Kenwood High School, stand hand in hand to be heard. Many times, our opinions fall on deaf ears, as we cannot yet vote. But we’ve had enough.
On April 20th, we plan to create a voice for the victims of the Parkland school shooting, along with seven others in 2018 alone. We come together to fight for not only what we believe in, but for what is right -- what should have been done years ago at the occurrence of other school massacres such as Sandy Hook and Columbine. We will walk out until the government makes gun laws stricter and until we feel safe in our schools.
The youth of this generation refuses to stay complacent. Time and time again we have watched government officials elected to protect us, fail to legislate. The government has always taken action to help prevent problems, why not this time? The repetitive utterance of thoughts and prayers are not enough. Words are just words, until they are backed by action. And until the government stops being backed by the NRA’s funding, and for once thinks about its kids, we will not see progress.
We need common sense gun control now. We will not accept domestic terror as our reality and therefore declare a protest necessary in relaying this message.
Today, we protest the gun laws in America and how the lack of restriction has made many students feel incredibly unsafe attending school. America has 4.4 percent of the world’s population, but almost half of the civilian-owned guns around the world. This has led to mass murders such as the San Bernardino shooting and more recently, the shooting in Parkland, Florida. The consecutive nature of such monstrous acts has desensitized the impact of domestic terrorism, therefore devaluing our lives as American students.
This is not about school security or mental health awareness, because that is not enough. This is about parents being afraid to send their kids to school. This is about countless other kids getting their hands on guns in the first place. This shouldn’t be a debatable issue — stop the selling of such weaponry. Stop the toxic gun culture in America, where such destructive weapons are culturally fetishized. Erect a system of anti-gun measures. It’s been proven that states with tighter gun control laws have fewer gun-related deaths.
We are not against the Second Amendment nor do we yearn to take away all guns. We simply want to keep guns out of the hands of those who will use them for mass destruction. Gun control and common sense regulation is not an infringement of outdated Constitutional rights, but will undoubtedly save lives.
We believe in change now!"
Here’s the plan: At 10:00 am, Around the beginning time of 4th Period, Student will get up and decide to exit towards the Entrance of Kenwood high, We will decide out there to Protest, We will stay outside in the Front Entrance of the hall.
