Petition For Less Screen/School Time

We, the students of Kealakehe hereby, request that students be on the computer from 9:45 to 12:00. During this pandemic everyone has been under lots of stress and piling on homework and hours of classwork doesn’t help students calm down. “Current school closures have added to the time that most students already spend at home during the summer months without explicit face-to-face instruction from teachers. Meanwhile, teachers are scrambling to adapt content for an online platform and parents are juggling work responsibilities (if not joblessness) with caring for and educating their own children. Students themselves are faced with isolation, anxiety about a deadly virus, and uncertainty about the future.” (brookings.edu) Giving students less school time would take a lot of weight off their shoulders. We have responsibilities at home to do and helping our family during this time is crucial. With school work weighing us down we’re unable to do that. Other students don’t have the discipline or motivation to participate in this work. It becomes overwhelming for everyone, including teachers. In an article written by Houston Chronicle named “Overwhelmed Houston Teacher Struggles To Juggle Online School” it talks about how teachers notice how stressed their students are and become stressed themselves. To ensure my solution be realized I propose that we do 3 hours of school everyday with no homework. Will you help your students?
