Augusta Margaret River Council review its Policy of Holiday Homes in Residential Areas

0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!

There is an on-going proliferation of Large Holiday Homes in designated Residential areas in our Shire. The cohesion and vibrant spirit in local communities brings valuable tangible and intangible benefits to the shire, with the minimisation of fire risk, safety of children, care of the elderly and the fostering and enhancement of the environment. Anti social behaviour is uncommon which is in contrast to situations where unsupervised holiday visitors are present and often in "Party Mode". Our Police Station is unmanned at night and complaints by Residents take some time to be dealt with. Many visitors, especially overseas visitors are unused to and uninformed of Fire Risks and Local Regulations.  In our community the roads are narrow and curved, there are no street lights and no footpaths. Parking, speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road can become dangerous issues.

We therefor make the following petition and seek Community support.

To the President and Councillors of the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River.

We, the undersigned, do respectfully request that the Council: -

(I)    Refuse Planning Application P218031, Proposed Holiday House (Large) 42  (Lot29) Karri Loop, Margaret River;

(ii)    Conduct a comprehensive review, involving meaningful community consultation, of LPP7 Holiday Houses and provisions of LPS1 the Shire Planning Scheme to bring them into accord with the intent of the Scheme, in particular Clause*;

(iii)   Defer consideration of Planning Applications against the policy LPP7 for Proposed Large Holiday Houses, until the review in clause (ii) above has been completed.

*Clause To preserve the local amenity against uses detrimental to the predominant residential use of the land.
