Excused absences should be made for Hull High students that attend the Patriots Parade

On Sunday, February 5th, 2017, the New England Patriots made history in Super Bowl 51. By winning 34-28, the Patriots brought home their 5th Lombardi Trophy. On Tuesday, February 7th, a parade will be held in Boston to celebrate the championship of the football dynasty. Thousands of Patriots fans will crowd the streets of Boston and come together as a community to help celebrate the big win. Personally, we believe that the significance of all of New England coming together to support one cause, disregarding all other political or religious beliefs, is more valuable than what you would learn in one day in the classroom. It shows that unity is possible, even in time of disagreement and opposition. For many New England fans, like many Hull High students are, football is not only a sport, but part of their American culture. However, many students cannot attend the big event due to school. If students miss school to go to the historic Patriots parade, an absence will be added to their record and students will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities, such as theater and sports. This may be the last time(Let’s hope not!) that the Patriots win the Super Bowl for a while, so the parade is extremely significant and history in the making. We hope you will recognize the student body uniting for a common goal.
