Matilde Bois started this petition to Mr. Dave Bremer and

DeSoto County High School produces a school yearbook every year. For a while, the sponsor and teacher for this class has been Ms. Carcamo. She is beloved by her students, who think she is a constant positive force in the intense working environment. She has encouraged everyone that has wanted to be in yearbook and shown potential to participate in the class to work their hardest to join the club and succeed in doing such.

Like all great things, there have been many trial and error processes throughout Ms. Carcamo’s time as yearbook sponsor. Some kids are not prepared to do the work that comes with creating the school yearbook. Even though some intrinsically motivated students think they are ready for the challenge, they typically aren’t. If a student is not prepared to handle the work load associated with yearbook - the same goes for ap and dual enrollment courses - they should not be taking the class.

It has been brought to the students of The DCHS’s yearbook that Ms. Carcamo has been removed from the position of yearbook sponsor. Frankly... we think this is slightly repulsive and that this action is dishonouring the literal blood, sweat, and tears poured into this book every year. While there might be some troubles presented throughout the year - including; deadlines, dropout students and minor quality issues - none of them are direct consequences of Ms. Carcamo as a teacher. This class is not something that can be handled easily, and takes a ton of effort. There are many factors that play into getting the yearbook financed, created, sold, and delivered. Throughout all these processes, mistakes are made. The punchline: None of these are from any faults of Ms. Carcamo.

If Ms. Carcamo is removed from the yearbook, so is the heart of it. So is the integrity, and so is the joy. I am also sad to inform you, that if Ms. Carcamo is being removed as yearbook sponsor, you should remove every other teacher from their position... for it is not the teacher that is ruining the quality and professionalism of the book and club, it is the students that the rest of your teachers have produced.

Ms. Carcamo does nothing but strive for greatness for the yearbook and for all the students participating in it. Any other teacher or sponsor would only make things worse for the class/club, as they would most likely not have the prior experience needed. Disorder and hysteria would be the only effects from removing Ms. Carcamo from this position. I speak for all of yearbook when I say (respectfully)... this is a dreadful decision.

Thank you and I beg of you to reconsider. It is truly for the good of the schools appearance and the actual yearbook.

Sincerely and regretfully, an extremely concerned yearbook student.
