Candlestick Retail Center Garage Entrance Threatens Candlestick Residents Air Quality

The Five Point Development corporation is planning to build an underground garage in its Candlestick Point development (CPO2).This garage would be constructed in the residential community and under the windows of residents who live 100 to 300 feet from the garage and across from the Gillman Playground. The entrance to the garage would be located on Ingerson Ave. and Giants Drive. The emissions from cars will have an immediate health impact on the community, including residents living closest to the garage and the children who use the playground, as well as children attending Bret Harte Elementary School. The Candlestick Point/Bayview Area has been deemed a Care Zone by Bay Area Air Quality Management and the Health Department because rates of respiratory illness here are the highest in San Francisco.
The simple solution is to move the planned garage and other parking structures away from the residential community to the southeast side of the development project to lessen direct health impact on residents.
Additionally they are planning to change Gilman Street and Ingerson into major transportation corridors which will take away residents' ability to park in their driveways and on the street.
