Why this petition matters

Covid 19-Omicron variant numbers in Santa Clara County are now record high. Every day the number is increasing, on Jan 5th the COVID new cases were 1988 in Santa Clara county(source). For reference, the 7-day case average in Santa Clara County went from 380 cases on Dec 25th to cases 2321 on Jan 5th 2022. Cases have gone up 5 folds in last 20 days. There are other counties as well where a family can catch the virus and we should plan to be in self lockdown.

This petition for moving the in person classes to online is a small effort to protect our kids and family from all the sadness which may come when kids/parents are sick and hospitalized.

This variant has long term implications on health. SCUSD should plan for temporary online classes knowing Omicron is very infective and vaccines do not work on this variant.

As of now more than 2k schools have been closed in 2022, data. Hospital and staff is overwhelmed by all the testing and hosptalizations. Increase in covid hospitalization is 8% each day(source).

SCUSD(Santa Clara Unified school district) should consider temporarily the option of kids attending the classes remotely until the Omicron surge.

Please join me to protect our community and family by signing this petition for moving the classes online.
