We are a community of over 140 modest homes built in 1943 in a semi-rural location in Renton.

There is a parcel of land on the north side of our community that has been in private ownership of a developer for many years. This parcel is a wildlife corridor, where multiple animal and bird species thrive; there are sensitive areas here, woods, a documented wetland and 2 streams, an APA zone 1 aquifer, and steep slope hazard at risk of landslides. Also this location has a designation of RC, Resource Conservation, which is given to rural areas, and the zoning is Low Density Single Family, 1 unit per acre, or per 10 acres. This is not zoned for industrial or commercial use.

There is a pre-application process ongoing with the city of Renton in WA. from Bufflehead Energy Storage System (BESS), asking for approval to move forward with this project, and make actual application to build A HUGE Battery Energy Storage System COVERING 9.3 ACRES, TOTAL FOOTPRINT OF 16 ACRES JUST 50' from our back gardens, where families spend time, and children play.

If THE PRE-APPLICATION goes forward in the system, our safety, HEALTH, peace of mind, security, HOMES, as well as property values are at stake. Equally important would be the DESTRUCTION of the WILDLIFE and their NATURAL HABITATS, ALONG WITH THE CLIMATE RESILIENCE PROVIDED BY THIS NATURAL area, COOLING OF the planet, CARBON DIOXIDE absorption by the woods, so all so ESSENTIAL AS THE CLIMATE issues worsen.

Regardless of safety measures and monitoring, BESS ARE HAZARDOUS INDUSTRIAL INSTALLATIONS - only as good as current knowledge and these protocols are not infallible. The world over - INCLUDING IN ARIZONA and ILLINOIS there are ongoing reports of - BESS batteries  OVERHEATING  causing LONG-BURNING fires, TOXIC GAS EMISSION and devastating explosions. Earthquakes and landslide risk have not been addressed.
