🍓 Move National Strawberry Day to Strawberry Season

Every year, National Strawberry Day is celebrated on February 27.

But here’s the problem, in most of the United States, fresh strawberries aren’t even in season yet.

Strawberries are one of America’s most beloved fruits. They represent spring, sunshine, family gatherings, farmers markets, and are a very popular part of Mother’s Day traditions. Yet we celebrate them in late February, when much of the country is still experiencing winter and grocery stores rely on long-distance shipments.

It doesn’t make sense.

We believe National Strawberry Day should be moved to the Saturday before Mother’s Day when:

• Strawberries are in peak season across much of the country
 • Local farmers are harvesting fresh berries
 • Families are already gathering to celebrate
 • Farmers markets are active
 • Communities are outdoors enjoying spring

Mother’s Day weekend is already associated with strawberries, from strawberry shortcake to fresh-picked berries and springtime festivals. Moving National Strawberry Day would:

✔ Support local agriculture
 ✔ Encourage seasonal eating
 ✔ Boost farmers markets and small farms
 ✔ Align the celebration with peak freshness
 ✔ Make the holiday meaningful and experiential

This isn’t about adding another “national day.” It’s about placing it where it belongs, in the beginning of strawberry season so that the local farmers can actually benefit from the national attention.
