Why this petition matters

The petition actions to move all in-person classes (other than clinical hours) online.

The current Semester 5 Acupuncture Advanced Diploma Program students are affected and concerned by having classes moved to in-person in the following ways:

  • Financial strain due to having to commute to campus and/or relocate closer to campus to attend classes.
  • Mental illness is impacted due to changing the learning environment with minimal notice or transitional resource support.
  • Increased exposure to Covid-19 that may affect required clinical hours to graduate in August with no expressed plan to the students on how makeup clinic will ensure graduation by August 2023 to write the CTCMPAO board exams. Entering the field of Acupuncture requires extensive planning by the students, the transition to online learning, with no expressed plan to the students regarding make-up hours with heightened exposure to Covid-19 requires addressing.
  • No access to lecture content if a student is required to self-isolate.
  • Unrealistic timeframe to implement necessary items to accommodate 4+ days of required in-class learning.
  • Lack of transitional resources to facilitate entering an in-class learning platform (housing, financial assistance, required steps for smooth transition).
  • Poor schedule planning with 3 hours in-person class on Monday and 11 hours in-person on Wednesday.
  • Negative environmental impact of requiring students to commute to campus for learning when course learning outcomes are not impacted via a hybrid model for Semester 6 of the Acupuncture Advanced Diploma Program.
  • Lack of consideration of the students' needs.
