Bring chickens and livestock back to Mountain Grove

Bring chickens and livestock back to Mountain Grove

The current city ordinance of Mountain Grove Missouri prevents residents living within city limits to house chickens, livestock, horses and any other animals, with the exception of dogs and cats (4 maximum), on their property. Preventing the residents of Mountain Grove from having the freedom to raise their own chickens and livestock is preventing our community from having food security, engaging in self sustainable lifestyles, full involvement in community activities like 4H, neighborly support and bartering when times are tough, creating income for ourselves and our families, teaching our children the value of farming and animal production, practicing activities that enrich physical and mental wellbeing, and so much more. The current ordinance is unlike any of the surrounding cities, as they all allow chickens, livestock, horses and other animals within their city limits, while Mountain Grove does not. We believe that by opening up our community to these animals that our city will be positioned for higher levels of community involvement, to be resilient in these times of change and to be the recipient of positive city growth. The need to change this ordinance has been brought to the attention of the city council. We have tried to show that is not in line with the desires of a large number of residents of Mountain Grove. Despite multiple attempts to change this ordinance, the city council votes continue to be in majority against this change. We need to come together and identify in hard numbers who is in support of making this change to allow chickens, livestock and horses within the city limits of Mountain Grove.
