Why this petition matters

Started by Gray Fullmer

As the amount of film majors in the U.S. increases by 15.1% per year, many students would prefer to take more liberal arts courses, which is something that Mount seems to lack. More specifically, many students agree that Mount would benefit from a film production elective. Although a television production elective is already provided to students, it is not featured in the annual Art Show, and many students agree that it tends to be neglected by administration.

Mount’s art programs can be compared to Roman Catholic High School’s, which provides 13 fine arts courses including a digital video elective. However, despite providing 16 fine art courses, Mount does not allow students to take a film/media production elective.

Mount lacks the ability to cater to students interested in the production of film; it instead funds its visual arts programs. Providing a course in the production of film and/or media will greatly benefit students interested. Students and non-students alike are welcome to sign this petition in support.
