Lauren Williams started this petition to Mount Alexander Shire Council

After receiving approx $3 million from the Victorian Government to 'revitalise' the streetscape of the historic mining town of Maldon, our Council has begun to install a raft of unpopular modern infrastructure additions in our tiny, heritage Main Street shopping precinct. These include 3 proposed pedestrian 'crossings' with kerb outstands (removing parking spaces where they are most needed), and several big metal box rubbish bins (replacing small 1970s pole-mounted rubbish baskets). They also intend to narrow the broad, classic country town intersection of High & Main Sts with another huge kerb outstand. Prior community consultation was held, but these things were neither mentioned nor requested. Community objections – and suggestions for more suitable alternatives – are being ignored. If you love our town, whether as a resident or visitor, please let the Mount Alexander Shire Council know you disapprove of their damaging disregard for Maldon's heritage, by signing this petition, and sharing it with others. Thank you.
