Vice President Sara Duterte faces charges over the alleged misuse of confidential funds during her term as the Secretary of Education leading to her impeachment, which was decided by the majority of the House of Representatives. We believe that it is in the best interest of the Filipino people for the Senate to immediately start the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte for her misconduct during her term. 

The impeachment process has already begun, with 70% of the congress in agreement of the termination of her position as deputy president. It is important for the Senate to act now and not waste our time for the next election cycle. 

As the senate requires a two-thirds majority in order to impeach the vice president, 12 of the 24 seats of the Senate are up for grabs in the next election. If action is not taken now, the next election will decide the fate of the vice president. As this is a national issue, the implementation of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment must be taken with immediate action to reduce political conflicts and provide better government for the Filipinos. Although the House of Representatives had already voted her out, prolonging her current position in the Senate negatively impacts the nation as it denotes she still has power that she can use to abuse to her own accord. 

With the Supreme Court already directing the Senate to proceed with the impeachment trial, we hope that the Senate will address it immediately in order to not only give peace in the government, but also the minds of concerned Filipinos.
