On June 25th, Tulsa food hall Mother Road Market announced that it would be reopening its dining room to the public and requiring that employees wear masks. It noted, however, that masks would be optional for customers. Given that this is a regional and national attraction located along Route 66 that attracts customers from all over, this is a major failing for our community's dedication to preventing the spread of COVID19. Research shows that mask-wearing by both parties (healthy and sick/asymptomatic) reduces the transmission of COVID19 to healthy persons by as much as 95%. Requiring that customers wear masks would not only show dedication to protecting MRM's employees from illness, but also ensure that those preparing customers' food be protected. This is essential to protecting our community from the record high levels of COVID19 infections we have seen in recent days.
