Change The Dress Code at Morton West High school
-Students at Morton West want change to be done to the dress code. The reason is not what many in administration think, saying we are only doing it to be out of uniform -no. The reason we as students assembled for a protest was to allow the girls to wear darker pants on their periods to feel safe, help with embarrassment, and the unnecessary expense the females have to face.
-Reason number one being the sheer embarrassment faced for bleeding out. I have sisters, friends, and peers all that have gotten an accident while at school. One of the things they have all said to me or acted like was just a showing of mortification, purely over the fact so many people saw while in the halls. On top of that this isn’t even touching base on the embarrassment that the trans males at our school face
-Reason two being it’s an unnecessary expense. Over the many years, girls that have attended Morton have had to thrown out a pair of pants/shorts, and not because they’ve grown out of them -no, because their pants got stained when they were on their period.
-Finally, reason three, isn’t our school supposed to be safe and secure? I mean, being able to wear darker pants while on your period would be protecting you from embarrassment or bullying. Right? Now before one of you say it, “how are we supposed to tell who’s our student.” That’s what our IDs and Maroon polo are for.
-To recap, we the students at Morton West want change to be done to our uniforms. Allowing the females to wear darker pants as an alternative to the kakis to bu help with the embarrassment, needless expense, and safety that goes on when they receive a period and bleed through.
