Vanguard Funds divest from guns and weapon stocks

0 have signed. Let’s get to 5,000!

Our country is beset with a plague of gun violence and I for one am tired of waiting for someone to do something about it. The government has failed us... maybe the free market can help. And that's why I'm calling on my fellow Americans to urge Vanguard to stop investing in guns, ammunition and weapons manufacturing.

According to, Vanguard funds hold $5.7 billion in gun and ammunition makers and sellers. Vanguard should divest itself of these funds for the good of the American people.

To Mortimer J. Buckley, the CEO of Vanguard Funds, and the entire board of Directors, I am writing this letter to call for you and Vanguard to immediately divest the stocks in ammunition and gun makers that you currently have in your portfolios. As a concerned citizen, I expect Vanguard to invest ethically, and take greater responsibility for the health and safety of the American people in light of the violence and despair that these products cause. As you are no doubt aware, gun homicides account for around 13,000 deaths per year, many of which would be avoidable if these weapons manufacturers would demonstrate a stronger degree of ethics around their products and their relationship to the American people.

The American people know who you are, Mr. Buckley, and we are concerned that your funds are profiting off of human misery and violence. Do not contribute to the success of weapons manufacturers. Divest.
