The Redcliffe Jetty Markets have been operated by Matthew, Ramesh and the Mema team for the last 10 years however, with the recent news their contract will not be extended. We would like to garnish support from the Redcliffe Community and beyond to ask why?

The decision was made Tuesday the 13th however, council did not feel the need to extend a letter, call or email informing the current operators that their contract would not be extended until the 18th (5 days later). This only leaves 5 more weeks of trade after 10 years of relations.

Due to the outpour of support on social media we have created this petition to bring forward to the council and get some questions answered for everyone involved; vendors, public patrons, staff, musicians and sub contractors.

Please feel free to sign the petition if you feel the need to comment or express your disappointment in the decision that has been made.

Everyone's support means more than anyone can imagine and we appreciate the support we have already received.

It is with a heavy heart today that we announce some devastating news!

The Moreton Bay Regional Council has informed us that they have chosen after 10 years of ever-growing success that we have created, they will not be extending our contract to operate the Redcliffe Jetty Markets as it currently exists. Instead they have chosen to give the contract to a company outside of the Redcliffe area. Our Involvement in operations and the Redcliffe Jetty Markets will come to a close at the end of September 2019.

From our beginnings in 2009 taking over the management of a very small market in the Anzac Place Parklands we have had a vision to create an iconic ‘must do’ event for Redcliffe and the Moreton Bay Region. From this humble beginning we have been passionate and professional on delivering our vision which saw us navigate through the effects of The Global Financial Crisis,  The massive Street Scaping project along the Redcliffe foreshore and the constant influx of other venues trying to capitalize on what we had grown to deliver being Australia’s Premier Seaside Market. We’re currently the number one weekly tourist event in not only the Peninsula but the South East Region. This is something we’re extremely proud of.

Through strong leadership and meticulous design, we have helped establish other micro businesses well into the thousands. As well as the traditional bricks and mortar shopfronts we see in the area today. This has not only benefited those businesses but has seen the foreshore flourish with the Parade re-opening previously closed establishments. This has given the Moreton Bay Region the opportunity to boast one of the biggest weekly events operating in the South East. We can also proudly state that the Redcliffe Jetty Markets have been a driving force behind the ever-increasing tourism trade for the region that has now garnished recognition via mainstream media outlets and business achievement awards throughout the country and deliver annually over 300, 000 visitors to the region.

We have always given back to the community that supports us through our community benefit program. Throughout this program we have been able to give back well in excess of $300,000 to charitable and community organisations, such as ‘The Queensland Cancer Council, Local Schools such as Scarborough State School and Redcliffe High school, Rocking 4 The Homeless, Surf Life Savers and many, many more’.

Words are hard to find at this current moment however, we would like to thank everyone that has been involved or supported our vision from day one.  This includes all our vendors, staff, musicians, volunteers and sub-contractors.

We have always tried to maintain integrity and professionalism when making our decisions with the best interest of the market at the forefront of our minds. We hope this is reflected by the growth of what we have developed and maintained over such an extended period of time.

From the bottom of all our hearts again, thank you to all the stallholders and public that have supported our efforts.

Sincerely Matthew, Ramesh and the MEMA Team.
