James Alexander started this petition to Mornington Peninsula Shire and

The Mornington Peninsula Shire Council have again released their plans for the changes to RYE township plan. This still includes reducing Nepean Hwy in Rye from 2 lanes to 1and 40km. Without a study into the increase and on flow effect for surrounding residential roads. The Council have no alternative approved road plans for the Southern Peninsula except reduce speed limits. Should we all use horse and cart? They plan on building a raised medium strip, creating the perfect situation for  a permament traffic jam over summer. Imagine waiting for driver after driver waiting to park, without being able to drive around! Council will say the have computer modelling, have they seen other communities response to similar changes? This proposal is flawed in several ways, how will emergency services respond with one lane and a raised medium strip over the busy period (could this cause loss of life?). Is this plan for the community or for business (their business) i.e. more footpath increased rates = more revenue. A year later the Council still has not addressed the issues of this ill conceived plan. Drivers will use residental roads where children ride bikes and play cricket over the Summer months and families walk. This does not fix any current problem only creates new ones. How many issues can you see with this plan. email; strategic.planning.projects@mornpen.vic.gov.au submissions close 15 December 2019
