The Council is conducting a review of the area know as Tassell's Cove.
The small stretch of beach known at Tassell's Cove has been a leash free dog beach for some years. It is a unique facility for the residents, visitors and holiday makers on the Mornington Peninsula. The beach is well utilised by locals and tourists alike and their dogs.
The unique cove formation ensures that dogs are unable to run onto a busy road or adjacent properties, they are naturally contained. The water is very shallow allowing dogs and owners of all ages and abilities to cool off and relax.
The overwhelming majority of visitors are responsible dog owners, carry doggy disposal bags and manage their dogs well. As with any broad cross section of society, there will be one or two who are not as vigilant, but this would be the case at any of the council operated leash free areas. At least at the beach, the tides take care of any occasional oversights daily.
If anything, I would suggest that the council could install a doggy comfort station that dispenses bags for this purpose at the entrance to the beach and perhaps enforce the council by laws regarding owners being in possession of such bags? Once people became aware that the enforcement is being implemented, there should be very few if any occurrences.
