I’m writing this petition to help Morgan State’s students prevail even through difficult circumstances, with a changed grading policy only for the remainder of the online spring semester 20’. Many of college students are struggling to finish off this semester due to COVID-19. Students were forced to immediately switch to online and many of us don’t have the same resources we did on campus such as: laptops, wifi, libraries, etc. This gives those students less of an advantage than those who have more resources than others, and gives those with resources and an opportunity to cheat and not retain any given information which devalues the degree. It is not fair to the people who try without having any given resources, if they fail and those who cheat prevail. The pass or fail option is devaluing the degree because a grade does not simply mean you understand the concepts you are taught it could mean you have the resources to cheat the system. The switch to online classes makes it difficult for us to learn and retain information due to a lack of motivation, our main goal is to pass classes and not to learn anything else. Therefore, both “grading” systems are devaluing our degrees, however, if we all can come together and make the change to the ABC grading policy, we can get an equal opportunity to pass classes without a grading curve, and no child is left behind.
