Jake Wade started this petition to Moreton Bay Regional Council

The reason for starting this petition is the inappropriate & hazardous location of an off-leash dog beach, which happens to be against & somewhat inside my property.

I live on a waterfront property which is directly on the beach with no fence, footpath or road in front. Sounds lovely, doesn't it. That is until:

 - You are being jumped on by a wet & sandy dog

- You are fighting a dog from eating your breakfast, lunch or dinner

- Dogs are urinating & defecating in your yard or on the beach and their owners having to enter your property to clean it up or simply leave it for you to clean it up

- You are yelling for dogs to get out of your yard, for them to stop eating your food or urinating on your furniture

- Having arguments & altercations with dog owners about their responsibility & for them to respect your property, belongings and general wellbeing.

- Wildlife being chased & killed particularly shorebirds & marine life (crabs, sea snails etc)

This, unfortunately, is my life on a daily basis, where I suffer from one, two or all of these issues listed above. This is not a petition I make with ease or thought I would ever be making. Unfortunately, the current situation I live in is ruining my mental & physical wellbeing as well as my work and social life.

The easiest solution you would assume would be to construct a fence to separate the dog beach from the property. Logically this makes sense, unfortunately, I and my neighbours are unable to do this as the fence would have to go into the tidal zone where the property boundary is located, this would result in it being washed away or having to be built to engineering standards which is financially draining & not a viable option.

This particular beach is also filled with Mangroves and an abundance of wildlife & marine life which is very quickly diminishing. I watch as shorebirds from across the globe are chased & killed by dogs, with their owners simply laughing or encouraging them. The shoreline is also a haven for birds looking to nest or feed & are simply either scared away, have their nests destroyed and their food sources trambled & scared away (e.g crabs etc). The owners are also letting their dogs urinate & defecate on the beach without cleaning it up despite the facilities (Dog bags and bins) being readily available.

My aim for this petition is to provide my local council with a consensus that this current situation is not suitable in its current location & that there NEEDS TO BE A REMEDY AND RELOCATION. I have suggested for them to relocate the dog off-leash area to a section of the beach that is not adjacent to properties and is rather AWAY from homes so that these issues do not continue to occur. I also want the local council to consider making changes to the dog beach once relocated to protect the wildlife and Mangrove ecosystem by limiting access during the shorebird season & forcing people to walk offshore on the sandflats so that the Mangroves and nesting shorebirds are uninterrupted.
