Heritage survey should be conducted by Moreton Bay Regional Council
Why this petition matters
With the potential threat of demolition the D’aguilar Corner Store, D’aguilar, by developers, pending a current Development Application outcome, community members have become aware many precious heritage buildings throughout the Moreton Bay shire are not heritage listed by the State Government nor identified as significant heritage sites in the MBRCs current planning scheme policy-Heritage and Landscape Character.
The following buildings in the rural township of Woodford are a few examples of sites not currently identified as Heritage sites by MBRC: the old garage now known as Get Chopped Diner, the Uniting Church Archer Street Woodford, (now lifeline), Victory Cafe Archer Street Woodford. There are likely to be many examples in your communities.
The Queensland Government requires Local Government Authorities to be responsible for local heritage planning via a heritage register or a planning overlay. (The Qld Government State of the Environment Report 2020 )
A heritage survey is required to enable review and potential updating of the MBRCs current planning scheme based on the views of the community. If the current List of sites and buildings of significant historical and cultural value is not reviewed and updated by the Moreton Bay Shire there are many buildings across the shire which are not protected and at the mercy of a Developers discretion.
