More Nature-Based Playgrounds in Schools and in the Community
More Nature-Based Playgrounds in Schools and in the Community
We need more nature based playgrounds in our communities and schools. Young people are spending more and more time on their screens, are increasingly sedentary, and are suffering from more mental health problems. We know that connecting with nature and being active helps address these problems.
When I am at a nature based playground, I am having way more fun, feeling happier and more interested than at a regular playground. I can spend hours being intrigued by the wonders of nature. I love leaping into creative play and inviting others to join me. Nature based playgrounds are more than just a playground for me, they are a place to listen, move, discover, notice, explore and appreciate the natural world.
Nature based playgrounds increase activity and build connection with nature. They are also fun, community-building and positive spaces. We need more of them in our schools, kinders, local parks and community.
Please sign my petition that I will deliver to the Victorian Department of Education and Moreland Council asking for new nature based playgrounds to be built in the local schools and parks of Moreland. Let's hope they listen and build at least two new nature based playgrounds in Moreland each year over the next 10 years. If they do, let's all go out, discover, enjoy and explore them, having fun and loving nature at the same time.
