Borderline Support UK started this petition to Sajid Javid (Secretary of State for Health and Social Care) and

Borderline Personality Disorder is a serious, debilitating medical condition with life-affecting symptoms. Suicide and self-harm is a real risk - up to 80% of patients with BPD self-harm or attempt suicide, and 8-10% of people with BPD sadly lose their lives as a result. Patients need ongoing support to help them manage their symptoms, and assess medication and therapy needs on an ongoing basis.

A lack of funding and a poor understanding of the condition among mental health professionals has led to people falling through the cracks - people who are living with a condition where suicide is a real and serious risk.

It is essential that more funding is allocated to services across the UK treating people living with Borderline Personality Disorder, and that care is standardised so that patients can receive adequate care regardless of where they live.

From the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence:

"Borderline personality disorder is characterised by significant instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and mood, and impulsive behaviour. There is a pattern of sometimes rapid fluctuation from periods of confidence to despair, with fear of abandonment and rejection, and a strong tendency towards suicidal thinking and self-harm. Transient psychotic symptoms, including brief delusions and hallucinations, may also be present. It is also associated with substantial impairment of social, psychological and occupational functioning and quality of life. People with borderline personality disorder are particularly at risk of suicide."

If we receive 100,000 signatures, we can present this to be discussed in parliament, and begin the process of improving care for patients with Borderline Personality Disorder in the UK. Please sign and share the petition with your family, friends and colleagues.

This petition was launched by Borderline Support UK (www.borderlinesupport.org.uk) a non-profit organisation providing information and signposting for anyone in the UK living with Borderline Personality Disorder.
