Why this petition matters

Started by Emma Ralley

I am disabled and am cared for full time by my 27 year old daughter. As she lives at home she does everything for me, from shopping to bathing me and helping me with my toilet needs and medication and cooking my meals. She is working a FULL TIME job. She gets around £65 per week which works out to less than £2 per hour for a 50 hour week. If she worked in the community or in a care home she would be earning minimum wage. What makes the difference between working at home to working in a work place? She has no life because she is with me from around 6am when her father leaves for work till he gets home at around 7pm. She only goes out to visit friends because she can't afford to go out and have a proper night out like other people her age. She has to pay her phone bill, she can't afford to buy new clothes or shoes unless she saves for them. Do you as a government think this is fair on full time live in carers? you have the power to make the change to give carers the money they deserve. Less than £2 an hour is slave labour. People that aren't in work are paid more. This doesn't male sense and I'm pretty sure it doesn't make sense to other carers. This IS a problem that has to be overhauled and our carers being paid a proper wage.
