More Care Now! More Personal Support Workers, not Administrators!

To Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Minister of Health Helena Jaczek,

We, the undersigned Ontarians, urge you to halt the government’s efforts in creating a new agency for delivering home care services in Ontario. This decision was made without consulting key stakeholders in the home care industry and without an explanation on why or how this will improve patient care.

This move has been opposed by Patients Canada, the Ontario Personal Support Workers Association, and the Home First Alliance for Patients, a coalition of home care organizations that deliver 95% of publicly-funded home care in Ontario.

In creating this agency, the Government of Ontario has not consulted with any of the organizations or individuals who have been providing home care services and dealing directly with patients for decades. Even worse, the Government failed to consult the thousands of home care patients and their families.

This will only make homecare difficult for patients and add a layer of administrators in office towers and divert badly needed funds from the front-line services on which vulnerable people depend.

To this end, we urge the Government of Ontario to end this divisive approach. Instead, the Ministry of Health should work in collaboration with Homecare Providers, personal support workers, and patients in Ontario to improve the existing system.
