I am a mother of a child that is suffering from ASD, and I have become extremely frustrated and concerned over the years of the inability to educate my child in the state school system, as well as private school system. My son has come to a critical part of his life, as the last few years he has not improved in his education, he is still having great issues adapting in the classroom environment, and due to further therapy reports show that there is great concern of his ability to learn if he can't access Autism schooling. As schools have limited resources due to funding, and teachers are also struggling to be able to deal with the challenging behaviour that autism can bring, trying to create a environment in the classroom that allows them to learn, is just too much expected of the teachers who for most part are not aware of the extra work load involved or the challenges they face.

There is a gap in the educational system that needs to be fixed, to allow all school aged kids the right to reach their full potential regardless of their disability or financial circumstance.

Number 1: We need more Autism schools. At the moment the demand is so high there are waiting list that give no guarantee or fixed time your child will get in.There are more and more children diagnosed with ASD every year but hardly any Autism schools have been built to accommodate for the rising numbers nor any real funding to build them.

Number 2: Make education apart of the NDIS plan, let the parents have the ability to be able to send their child to a Autism school or have shared schooling. Instead of the Government giving the funds to the school to provide support, put these funds in their NDIS plan so the parents can use that money to either send them to an Autism school or split the money so they can have shared schooling.

This could greatly improve their ability to learn, also allowing parents and specialists to make an informed choice for each individual case, as all ASD children needs are different.

It's time we all come together as parents, carers, teachers, specialists, and organisations, and fight the fight that our children can't. SEE THE ABLE NOT THE LABEL.

We are all worthy of an education.
