Why this petition matters

Started by Sean Murray

On nearly a daily basis, trucks, commercial vehicles and vehicles with trailers  are improperly utilizing the Henry Hudson Parkway and often times getting stuck under the low bridges. This poses, at best, a routine traffic nightmare but also has the potential to cause serious injury or death. It’s only a matter of time before something truly horrific happens. A significant contributing factor for this continuous issue is the inadequate signage at each of the parkway entrances. There should be larger signs placed at the entrances, each lane on the parkway should have multiple pavement markings indicating “No Trucks”, and there should be better warning features indicating that low bridges are ahead, or perhaps even barriers that would prevent trucks from entering the parkway at all. Also, local Uhaul and other truck rental locations should be required to notify their renters that their vehicles are prohibited from all state parkway systems and the renter should be required to sign an acknowledgment that they are aware of the law and the consequences. Sign this petition to alert NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, Assemblyman Dinowitz, and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson of this obvious safety issue.
