"Skaneateles School District Residents Opposing Project Book Ends"

As concerned citizens of Skaneateles, we need to stop the unprecedented rezoning of privately owned land from “A-1 Residential” to “Public Lands” and the abandonment of our current historic landmark library/ Barrow Art Gallery.

Project Bookends is seeking this rezoning in order to build a large Library/Learning Center complex without a proper, publicly available feasibility study, and without having adequately assessed the anticipated environmental impacts of this project.

Besides a Library, the scope of the proposed project suggests that multiple other services will be needed, including commercially lighted parking lots isolated from the Village Center, all in a residential neighborhood. Project Bookends will duplicate existing services and programs that are already available to the community and create a substantial change in the intensity of use in this residential corridor of Genesee Street in the Village.

Additionally, This facility will depend largely on donor funding and tax payer dollars to sustain its operations. If the financial sustainability for staff, maintenance, utilities etc., is not met by such funding, the deficit is likely to become a burden on the taxpayer as has occurred with similar facilities in other locations.

Our Petition is this:

AS A RESIDENT OF THE SKANEATELES SCHOOL DISTRICT:

I oppose the Project Bookends proposal for a Library/Learning Center to be built on a parcel of land at the former Stella Maris property,130 E. Genesee Street, Skaneateles.

oppose the rezoning of the former Stella Maris property from A-1 Residential to Public Land.

I will not financially support the Project Bookends proposed Library/Learning Center at the former Stella Maris location.
