Moonleaf Tea Shop: Stop Sealing Cups for Dine-In Purchases
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
By now, we are all probably aware of how much plastic is in our oceans and landfills. Every year, about 300 tons of plastic is produced, half of which is for single-use (e.g. straws, utensils, cups, bottles). The Philippines was reported to be the 3rd top producer of plastic waste in the world. That's saying a lot.
So how can you help?
Plastic cups, seals, and straws are one of the most common culprits of single-use plastic waste. Just think about it: how often do you order a beverage? And out of all these instances, how many are placed in single-use cups and how many involve using a straw? Here are some numbers to get you thinking.
We can do our part by convincing establishments such as Moonleaf Tea Shop to lead and catalyze this change and to reduce, if not eliminate, single-use plastics.
Here's how: when customers order, Moonleaf staff should ask if they're dining in or taking their drinks away. If they're dining in, the drinks shouldn't be sealed anymore; there's really not much need for it. Based on experience, it's even more efficient since it makes sure you can get every last pearl or pudding! It also eliminates the need for a straw if you're not getting any add-ons.
And as customers, here are some things you can do to help out:
- Bring your own container (i.e. big reusable plastic cup, or your water bottle);
- Bring your own metal straw if you have one (or buy one if you don't; it's fulfilling in the long run), or don't ask for a straw if you think you can finish your drink without it; and
- If Moonleaf doesn't accept this petition, be the change yourself and ask the staff not to seal your drink when you order.
Every piece of single-use plastic waste avoided goes a long way. Help save the environment and preserve this Earth for generations to come. ♥
