The Montgomery Help Law is to help get the rights of non-active parents terminated. My husband had 3 children when I became apart of his life. The youngest 2 have a different mother from the oldest child. Immediately I called all 3 of them my children without hesitation. Our youngest 2 have a non-active biological mother. I call her the biological mother only because she hasn’t been around except for 4 to 5 times out of the 2 years I’ve been in their lives. They were ages 1 and 2 when I became mama to them. They are now 3 and 4. The biological mom only texts around birthdays and Christmas. Has said time and time again she has presents and money for them, but has never sent anything or met us with anything. We have allowed her chance after chance and she still fails to show her effort to be in their lives. She’s also been on drugs. She had told us she was going to rehab at one point, but then told us she changed her mind because she didn’t need it. She also only lives 30 minutes away from us and still refuses to come see the kids. I’ve met with a lawyer to talk about me adopting the kids to make them officially mine. He had told me it would cost $2,000 if she decides to just agree to sign over her rights, but if not it will cost us $4,000 to go through the courts to get her rights terminated here in our state. I’m doing this petition because I want what’s not only best for my 2 children, but for other parents who are going through the same things children. 

Non-active parents meaning they aren’t around, they don’t financially help with the child/children, they don’t call or text to check on them as they should, and they just make excuses constantly as to why they aren’t around. They can also be easily proven unfit without a doubt (such as drug abuse and not financially stable themselves). 

Non-active mothers and fathers shouldn’t be allowed a chance to regain their rights if the other parent and stepparent have already given them chance after chance without the law or courts being involved. 

Things such as custody and adoption should be based on the best interest of the child. If a parent is proven unfit more than once their rights should be terminated without hesitation. 

If we are to win this thing, I will continue to do what I have been doing for the last 2 years and that is be a mother to my kids. They deserve a mother who isn’t going to walk out on them and leave them behind. 

I’m not going to ask for anyone to donate money. That is not the point of this. I’m making a point for my children. This entire law is for my kids. Yes money is hard to come by, especially for things like this. Lawyer charges and then adoption fees, of course it’s all expensive. But I know my husband and I will do whatever it takes for the sake of our kids. Our families and close friends will also help if need be. But please don’t think this is a financial call for help, NO it is for my kids to have a better life without struggling for their non-active biological mothers attention.
